Obituary - Virgil Jurenka

Virgil Frank Jurenka was born August 23, 1926, on the family farm north of Hingham to Frank and Frances (Pecinovsky) Jurenka. He would later raise his own family in the same house. He died on October 17, 2021, at the Liberty Medical Center Nursing Home in Chester after a short three and a half month stay out of his 95 years.   

Virgil attended the Mariner country school and Hingham School, graduating from Hingham High School in 1944. During WWII he worked in Richmond, California, working on Liberty Ships and for the Ford Motor Company building Army jeeps. 

On September 15, 1951, Virgil married Martha Hybner in Hingham. They began their married life northwest of Hingham on the farm and ranch raising kids, wheat and cattle. Throughout the years, Virgil enjoyed family and visiting with neighbors. He served as clerk at Mariner School and served on the Hingham school board for many years. He also served on the Hill County ASCS board. The family remembers fishing trips, camping, trips to Flathead Lake and other adventures. In 1993, Virgil and Martha moved to Rudyard, where he enjoyed woodworking in his shop, visiting during afternoon coffee at Farmers Union, shooting pool at the Senior Citizens Center and restoring farm equipment for the Rudyard Depot Museum.   Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Frances Jurenka;, his in-laws, Frank and Antonia Hybner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen (Royal) Morrison and Marietta (Clarence) Ramberg, Jerry Hybner and Ed Hybner, and niece Linda Hybner Schweitzer. 

Virgil is survived by his wife of 70 years, Martha; sons, Tom (Marilyn) of Hingham, Ted (Lynn) of Rudyard, Russ (Mary) of Ames, Iowa, Doug (April) of Whitefish, Frank (Julie) of Sandpoint, Idaho, Paul (Maura) of Mount Vernon, Washington; daughter, Carol (Tim) Tempel of Rudyard; grandchildren, Mike (Megan), Kevin (Megs), Molly (Todd) Roe, Cody, Tarah (Oliver) Dean, Alex (Aysha), Ben (Brooke), Katie, Patrick, Emily, Collin, Matthew and Anna; and great grandchildren, Josie, Easton and Callen. Virgil is also survived by his sister in-law, Mary Lois Hybner; nieces and nephews from the Morrison, Ramberg and Hybner families and farmer exchange program son from France, Andre (Catherine) Cazes, Timothee and Romuald 

A vigil service will be held at Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church Thursday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2021, also at the Catholic Church in Hingham. Burial will follow in the Hingham Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church basement. 

Memorials are suggested to the North Star School Foundation in Rudyard or the donor's choice.
