Northern volleyball lands Huntley Project duo

Huntley Project is the premier volleyball program in high school volleyball in Montana. And the Montana State University-Northern Skylights just landed two more standouts from the Red Devils.

Northern volleyball coach Jerry Wagner has announced the signing of two Huntley Project High School standouts in Josie Hasler and Macee Murphy to join the Skylight program next fall.

"I'm absolutely thrilled that Josie and Macee have chosen to join the Skylights," said coach Wagner. "I would have been thrilled to get one player of this caliber, but we are fortunate to get two of them!"

Hasler is a 5-6 outside hitter/defensive specialist from Huntley. This season Hasler was ranked first in digs per-match with 43. She was ranked fifth in career kills with 1190. Sixth in kills per game with 27. She was also ranked ninth in career digs with 1472. Hasler was a four-year varsity player. She has received All-Conference from 2019-2021. She was named Class B All-State her junior and senior year. This year she was recognized as State MVP.

Hasler also gets it done in the classroom, as well as on the court. She is on the National Honor Society with a GPA of 3.5. She also earned Honors English for two years. She will be joining MSU-N's elementary education major with a special education minor. She not only played volleyball, but she also played basketball and track and field. They were state champions her freshman year.

Hasler is the daughter of Chad and Kamee Hasler. When asked why she chose Northern she replied "I really enjoy the atmosphere and (they) have a strong education program. I also feel like I can grow my knowledge in volleyball."

"I really enjoy the fact that Josie's parents met and both graduated from Northern. Josie's mother Kamee competed in both basketball and volleyball for the Skylights," Wagner said.

Murphy is a 5-7 setter from Ballantine. She attended high school at Huntley Project. In her career rankings, she was seventh in blocks (129), third in digs (1,782), and seventh in assists (2,028). Macee is also a four-year varsity player. Murphy was All-Conference the last three years and Class B All-State the last two years.

Murphy was also good in the classroom with a 3.6 GPA. She was also Academic All-State all four years. She will be pursuing MSU-N's elementary education major with a special education minor. She also starred in track and field and basketball. In 2018, track and field won state.

Murphy is the daughter of Bill and Tammy Murphy. When asked why she chose Northern she replied, "Because of the growing volleyball program and they have a beautiful campus."

The Red Devils won state three out of the four years they have been there. When they didn't win, they were runners-up.
