Hi-Line Girls: Beeters, Knights capture 9C victories

Hi-Line Girls Basketball

The high school girls basketball season continued across the Hi-Line last week but there were some interruptions as the Box Elder Bears and the Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds had to postpone some games because of COVID-19 issues. But even with a depleted slate, many Hi-Line teams were able to play some games last week.

Hi-Line basketball started Thursday night when the Chinook Sugarbeeters won, 74-42, against the Big Sandy Pioneers. The Sugarbeeters jumped out early as they led, 23-9, at the end of the first quarter.

Over the course of the second and the third quarters, the Sugarbeeters continued to pull away for the win. Hallie Neibauer led Chinook with 20 points while Alexus Seymour scored 14 and Bree Swanson scored 10. Eva Wagoner scored 13 points in the loss for Big Sandy.

District 9C basketball continued Friday with a game between the Fort Benton Longhorns and the Turner Tornadoes. The defending state champion Longhorns played well as they defeated Turner 57-37. It was close early on as Fort Benton led, 19-15, at the end of the first quarter.

The Longhorn defense then played strong the rest of the way as the Tornadoes could not score more than 10 points in any quarter the rest of the game. Dakota Krass did have a stellar game for Turner as she scored 26 of the team's 37 points. The Longhorns had a balanced attack with Hailee Wang scoring 16 points, Casha Corder scoring 14 and Ashlee Wang scoring 13.

The Rocky Boy Morning Stars also played Friday night but they lost, 66-46, to Choteau. Hi-Line basketball then continued Saturday with a 9C matchup between the Turner Tornadoes and the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks. The Tornadoes were unable to bounce back from their loss the day before and the Hawks won 60-39.

The Fort Benton Longhorns were unable to keep their winning ways going Saturday as they lost, 60-52, to the North Star Knights. The Longhorns had the early advantage as they led, 12-6, at the end of the first quarter. But the Knights exploded on offense in the second to take a 33-27 lead into halftime.

The Knights then stretched their lead to 48-35 in the third. The Longhorns tried to rally in the fourth but they were unable to erase the deficit. Laynie Sattoriva had an excellent game for the Knights as she scored 27 points. Kaytlyn Domire also played well with 13 points. Ashlee Wang led the Longhorns with 19 points.

Hi-Line basketball will return this Thursday when the Big Sandy Pioneers play a non-conference game against Denton-Geyser-Stanford.
