Chamber office may have short hours until new director comes in

The Havre Area Chamber of Commerce office may have some short hours or may be closed a few days in the next two weeks awaiting a new staff member coming in.

Matt Wertheimer, chair of the Chamber Board of Directors, said Thursday afternoon that the board had an applicant verbally commit to taking over the position of executive director at the Chamber.

He declined to name the candidate until details were finalized, but said the person planned to put in their notice at their job to start at the Chamber in two weeks.

He said the board believes the candidate can handle all the work in the office and the board does not plan to fill the executive assistant position held by Marla Shulund, who is leaving the Chamber to take a position with another organization effective Monday.

The executive director position has been open since the start of February when Julea Robbins left that position to start working at Bear Paw Development Corp.

He said the board is lining up volunteers to staff the office until the director takes over.

Wertheimer said this morning the hours have been set, with the office closed March 14, 18 and 25 and otherwise will be open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays for the next two weeks.
