Leadership High School at Havre High School returned this year after stopping due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year, with the Class of 2022 graduating in a ceremony at Montana State University-Northern this year.

This year's class was Havre High School students Kenny Shellenberger, Lane Kinsella, Conner McKay, Allie Messinger, Maddie Thomas, Ali Maloughney, Hannah Gingery, Sofia Dawson, Abigail Adams, Scott Woods, Kate Hemmer and Courtney Burchard.

Havre Superintendent Craig Mueller addressed the class at the ceremony Tuesday in the Student Union Building Ballroom, as did Chancellor Greg Kegel.

Kegel also presented the certificates to the graduating students and presented each of them with a $1,000 tuition waiver to Northern.

The program, done in partnership between Havre Public Schools and the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce, started early last decade and works to develop the students' leadership skills through involvement in Havre's community and various volunteer opportunities including job shadowing at various businesses in the area.

The vision statement of the program says a limited number of Havre High School juniors are selected to participate. Selection is not based on GPA but is determined by student's interest and a subjective determination as to who will benefit most from the program by the students' answers to the application. A volunteer committee, which also develops the program, are directed to use its best efforts to select the class from the applications received upon its review of the answers to the application questions.
