Best of the Hi-Line finish season at Class B-C State Track Meet

As the school year comes to an end, so too does the spring sports season. This past weekend, schools from across the Hi-Line wrapped up their track and field seasons. In Great Falls, schools from the District 9C competed in the Class B-C State Track Meets.

In the Class C boys meet, Seeley Swan took home first while Manhattan Christian came in second and Belt came in third. From the 9C, Fort Benton scored 27 points to finish sixth in the meet. In their final meet of the season, several Longhorns performed well.

Devin Bird had another great meet for the Longhorns. He finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.36 and he took fifth in the 200-meter sprint with a time of 23.38. His teammate Mateo Socorro took sixth in the 200 with a time of 23.43.

In the 1,600 relay, the Fort Benton team of Bird, Kaden Bach, Landis Arganbright and Tim Lane took third with a time of 3:33.97. The Longhorns also did well in the field events. Dane Byle took third in the discus with a distance of 148-01 and Colter Ball finished third in the javelin with a distance of 158-09.

Chinook scored 20 points to finish eighth in the boys meet. Toby Niederegger took home a state title in the high jump as he posted a height of 6-04. His teammate Levi Jensen came in fifth in the high jump with a height of 6-00. In the 400 relay, the Chinook team of Niederegger, Hunter Molyneaux, Braxton Inman and Tyler Schoen finished second with a time of 44.87.

The Chester-Joplin-Inverness boys team finished 14th in the meet with 14 points. Kyle Harmon had a strong end to the year as he took third in the 100 with a time of 11.38 and he finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 23.16. His teammate Ryder Cole took fourth in the pole vault with a height of 13-00.

North Star finished 30th in the meet thanks to two points from Carter Campbell. In the 800, Campbell finished fifth with a time of 2:05.80.

In the Class C girls meet, Plentywood scored 74 points to win the state title. Manhattan Christian came in second while Seeley-Swan took third. The Fort Benton girls team scored 12.5 points to finish 13th in the meet.

For the Longhorns, Cloe Kalanick had another excellent meet. She took home the state title in the discus with a distance of 127-11 to win the event. She also took sixth in the shot put with a distance of 34-04.75. In the pole vault, Fort Benton's Jenna Dunham finished fifth with a height of 8-06.

The CJI girls team finished 17th in the meet with nine points. Tatum Hull ended her season by placing high in many events. She finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.23 and she took fifth in the 200 with a time of 26.77.

Hull finished sixth in the 100 with a time of 13.00. She also did well in the field events. She took sixth in the long jump with a distance of 16-03.75 and she finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 34-04.

The Chinook girls team scored five points to finish 25th at the meet. In the 3,200, Anna Terry finished fourth with a time of 12:31.32. In the 800, Hallie Neibauer finished sixth with a time of 2:29.01.

In the girls meet, North Star and Big Sandy tied for 31st with one point each. In the high jump, Big Sandy's Eva Yeadon took sixth with a height of 4-10. In the discus, North Star's Rainee Watson finished sixth with a distance of 105-03.

The Class B Track Meet also took place in Great Falls over the weekend. In the boys meet, Jefferson won the state title while Loyola-Sacred Heart finished second and Bigfork took third. In the girls meet, Sweet Grass County took home the title while Colstrip finished second and Bigfork took third. In the Class B girls meet, Harlem scored one point thanks to Chloe Messerly. In the javelin, Messerly took sixth with a distance of 115-10.
