Local Golf Report: Late nights when it's Open week

If you love watching golf like I do, then, you won’t be getting much sleep this week. I know I won’t, because it’s Open Championship Week.

For me, that means several things, but most of all, it means staying awake for as long as possible to watch the early morning coverage, and then keep going throughout the day. This week though, is even better, because the Open is back at St. Andrews, the birthplace of golf. And while I didn’t start really watching or playing golf until my teens, my earliest memories of professional golf were watching Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus in the British Open when I was really young. You see, I have always been a night owl, and so, sports that were on late at night and early into the morning when I was young were The Open and Wimbledon, and I loved, and still love, to stay up late, and get up early and watch.

I also love the Open Championship because I love watching links golf. And though I live in Montana, I love playing it, too. It’s just a great form of the great game of golf.

So, needless to say, this is going to be a long, tiring, but enjoyable week.

On the home front, congrats to Shane Patacsil and Cody Mattfeldt for winning the annual Rotary Blast last Sunday at Prairie Farms Golf Course. Well done, fellas.

Thunderstorms were the name of the game last week, when it came to the crazy summer weather that continues on in Havre. However, league golf made it through some.

Last Tuesday in Prairie Farms men’s league, Tire Rama scored 25.5 points to take high team. CJ and Lunar Evans and Scott Miller and Buzz Pizzini composed the team. Miller was also low net with a 33.5, while Jerod Boles and Dustin Haas tied for low gross 37’s.

Last Wednesday’s men’s league was wiped out due to the storms.

In ladies league last Thursday night at Prairie Farms, Charles Heating and Air scored 22 points to take high team honors. Kelsey Ward, Kim Evans, Kim Purkett and Delonna Malone were the members of the winning team. No gross and net were listed, but Tammy Boles and Kelsey Sage did have birdies. Nice job ladies!

Storms also interrupted men’s league at Beaver Creek Golf Course last week.

A friendly reminder, as tournament season continues, please send in tourney results and pictures of the winners if you have them. Emails can be sent to [email protected].
