Young riders make their names known at junior rodeo

Festivities at the Great Northern Fair got started on Wednesday with the junior rodeo. Over the course of the evening, several young riders displayed their skills and put on a show for local fans.

Mary Gibson had an excellent night in several events. She finished first in the 14-18 goat untying with a time of 8.07. She and her partner Cayden Chapman took first in the monkey on a rope with a time of 37.35. She also finished second in the 14-18 breakaway with a time of 5.47 and she earned third place in both the 14-18 pole bending and the 14-18 barrels.

Cooper Fisher won several events in the junior rodeo. He took first in the 9-13 flag race with a time of 8.38 and he won the 9-13 breakaway with a time of 2.97. He and his partner JR Branger won the team roping with a time of 18.05. In the monkey on a rope, he and his partner Hayden Strauser took third with a time of 38.78.

Rome Kallenberger had a strong night as he placed first in both the 4-8 barrels and the 4-8 goat untying. He recorded a time of 20.27 in the barrels and he posted a time of 10.07 in the goat untying.

Another rider who had a great night was Aariana Henry. She took first in the 9-13 goat tying with a time of 12.11 and she placed first in the 9-13 barrels with a time of 17.46. She also placed second in the monkey on a rope with her partner Ty Kittson as they posted a time of 37.91.

Kaber Loch performed well in several events throughout the evening. In the 4-8 flag racing event, Loch took first with a time of 21.15. In the 4-8 pole bending, he finished third with a time of 44.28. He also finished fourth in both the 4-8 barrels and the 4-8 goat untying.

Cassie Gibson performed well on Wednesday night. She took first in 14-18 pole bending with a time of 21.86. She also won 14-18 breakaway with a time of 4.16. In the 14-18 barrels, Kenzie Kallenberger took first with a time of 17.39. Kallenberger also placed fourth in the 14-18 goat tying with a time of 12.71.

Many other riders did well throughout the evening. Hadley Notafraid did well in several events with a first-place finish in the 9-13 pole bending with a time of 24.77 as well as a third-place finish in the 9-13 barrels with a time of 19.25. In the 4-8 sheep riding event, Cain Ray took first with a score of 68. In the same event, Steele Marcenko took second and Kolter Loch finished third.

In steer riding, Strauser finished first with a score of 72. Shadyn Speakthunder finished first in the 4-8 pole bending with a time of 35.14. In second place was Abby Lowe and in third was Kaber Loch.

With the junior rodeo now over, the Great Northern RAM Rodeo will take over the fairgrounds. The pro rodeo began last night and will continue tonight at 7 p.m. at the Great Northern Fairgrounds.
