Hansen will be missed

It was a sad day in early July when we laid my District 14 predecessor, Kris Hansen, to rest. Kris was a mentor who was not afraid to let, not only myself know her thoughts, but anyone willing to listen. Kris lived a lot of life in her 52 years, which was very evident at the funeral where friends told quips of her life. She was a very proud veteran and active Christian; her steadfast wisdom will be missed.

July has been very hot and dry for the most part. Having driven around my district from west to east and north to south, I’ve noted the significant damage caused by hail. Wind has also continued to be a problem with a number of places where dirt has been blowing. My campaign signs have also taken a hit and a couple have even blown away. If you have found or know where they may be, please give me a call and I can get them put back in place.

There have been some changes going on throughout District 14. Liberty County Commissioner Morb Wicks has taken a job with the USDA in Bozeman, which has left an opening to be filled. I wish her the best. Having worked with Morb, I know she will represent Montana well.

A highway project that the Hill County commissioners have been working toward for a number of years is now moving forward. It is great to see Highway 232 moving forward. This past week, I attended the Benton Medical Clinic ribbon cutting. The new clinic is attached to the Missouri River Medical Center Campus and is a very impressive addition. The Medical Campus employs some 70 folks.

In the last two weeks, I have had the opportunity to take in both the Marias and Hill county fairs. 4-H is very active and evident at both fairs with the kids and families showing animals and completing projects together. At the 4-H livestock sales, both communities set new records. I looked at some of the names involved and some families are well into three and four generations of 4-H’ers and going strong. Having worked with youth over the years, it is easy to spot the work ethic that is carried on after leaving 4-H.

Harvest has started; machines and trucks are everywhere. Please give them room on the roads, and, if you are in the field, be safe.
