Professional riders compete at Bear Paw Roundup rodeo

This past weekend, the rodeo made its return to the Hi-Line, this time in Chinook. This past Thursday and Friday at the Blaine County Fairgrounds, professional cowboys and cowgirls competed in the Bear Paw Roundup. Over those two days, many riders from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association put on a show for the crowd.

Landon Williams finished the weekend as the all-around champion with a total earnings of $1,523. He took first in the tie-down roping event with a time of 10.7 seconds to earn $1,062. In team roping alongside his partner, Cadee Williams, Landon finished fourth with a time of 7.9 seconds to earn $461. Landon is now 25th in the all-around standings in the PRCA with a total earnings of $24,399.04.

Many other riders did well over the weekend. As the lone rider to qualify in bull riding, Kobe Whitford took first with 73 points to earn himself $2,068. In bareback riding, Will Norstrom took first with 72 points to take home the cash prize of $1,184. Ty Owens came in second behind him with a score of 69 to earn $790.

Jaden Whitman took first in steer wrestling with a time of 4.8 seconds to earn $1,062. Will Powell came in second with a time of 51 seconds and Quentin Wheeler finished third with a time of 5.8 seconds.

Radley Day and Jared Bilby finished first in team roping with a time of 6.2 seconds to win the cash prize of $954 each. Ian Austiguy and Sam Levine took second with a time of 7.2 seconds while Dustin Bird and Ike Folsom finished third with a time of $625.

In saddle bronc riding, Dawson Dahm won $1,501 with a first-place finish of 81 points. That increased his total earnings to $35,019.31, good for 31st in the event’s standings in the PRCA. Andrew Evjene finished second with a score of 71 and Caleb Meeks came in third with a score of 70.

Behind Landon in tie-down roping, Nolan Conway came in second with a time of 10.9 seconds to win $797. Matthew Wznick took third in the event with a time of 19.5 seconds to earn $531.

Alicia Bird took home first in barrel racing with a time of 18.11 seconds, good enough to earn her $643. Shelby Gill took second with a time of 18.14 seconds while Justine Doka finished third with a time of 18.24 seconds.

Even with the Bear Paw Roundup now in the books, there are still plenty of PRCA rodeos set to take place in the state of Montana. In the next few weeks, PRCA riders will compete in rodeos in Big Timber, Circle, Kalispell, Baker and Billings, so there is still plenty to look forward to this month for rodeo fans in the Treasure State.
