Martha was born April 4, 1936. She was the daughter of the late John and Irene Schnepf and was one of five children. She was raised and educated in Saginaw, MI, attending Catholic Parochial School.

Martha married Doyle J. Sovey in 1958 and together they had three children; John, Holly, and Matthew. She worked as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell in Saginaw. Her husband, Doyle passed away suddenly in 1977.

She met Joe Gatzemeier and the couple married in October of 1979. She became a second mother to Dean and Russell Gatzemeier. She continued working at Mountain Bell until she retired in 1979.

Joe and Martha loved to travel and see different things. It didn't matter if it was a different state or country, they always enjoyed themselves and meeting new people. The couple traveled to Mesa, Arizona, in the winters and it was there that Martha learned to play Mahjong. She enjoyed the game so much that she brought her new talent home to Havre where she taught her family and friends to play. She liked painting and all arts and crafts. Martha will always be remembered for her smile and feisty personality. She enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. She was a very compassionate person, always giving of herself to others.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Doyle J. Sovey, in 1977; her daughter Holly Connor in 2013; brothers, John Schnepf and George Schnepf; and sister Connie Brown.

Left to carry on the beautiful memory of Martha are her husband Joseph W. Gatzemeier; sons, John Sovey of Reno, NV, and Matthew Sovey of Ennis, MT; stepsons, Dean (Teressa) Gatzemeier of Mesa, AZ, and Russell Gatzemeier of Mason, WA; and grandchildren, Meagan, Travis, Jeremy, Charles, Lucas, Brooks, Isabella, and Jake; many great-grandchildren; her sister Crissa Redifer; and many close friends, especially her Red Hat friends.
