Obituary - Lynn Diane Ward

Lynn Diane Ward grew up in Columbus, Montana, the daughter of Jean and Leo Drain. Lynn was born on July 28, 1950, and attended K-12 in Columbus.

Upon graduation from high school, she attended the University of Montana. In Missoula, Lynn was on the ski team and took dancing classes. She eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Science in physical education from the U of M in 1973.

Missoula was also the place where Lynn met her husband, Mark Ward. She married Mark March 24, 1972. Lynn and Mark moved all over the country while Mark earned his medical degree. During this time, Christopher Coy Ward, Bethany Lynn Ward, and Mary Ellen Ward were born.

Lynn received her nursing degree in 1979. She worked in hospitals across the southern United States including some located in West Virginia, Oklahoma, and Missouri.

In 1986, the Ward family moved to Havre, Montana, where Mark and Lynn started a medical practice specializing in internal medicine. During her time spent in Havre, Lynn was involved in the Havre Quilt Guild and produced many beautiful quilts while also raising her three children. The family often took road trips in the family RV to various locations across Montana and Canada, and, many times, to go fishing, which was a hobby both Mark and Lynn enjoyed doing together. Mark and Lynn went on many adventures together. They traveled all over the United States in their RV. They also visited several foreign countries including France, China, Switzerland, Turkey, Greece, Croatia and Mexico.

After retirement, Lynn and Mark went on one of their most adventurous trips yet, across the Mediterranean Sea in a diesel duck boat. Surprisingly, that got old quite fast and, in 2013, Lynn and Mark bought a ranch close to Ryegate, Montana, on the Musselshell River. Lynn was up to her usual hobbies of quilting and knitting. She also developed a fondness for cows and one year when Mark came down with COVID she did all the calving by herself!

Lynn was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in 2020 which was the eventual cause of her death. She is survived by her son (Chris) and daughters (Mary and Beth) and her husband (Mark). She was a wonderful partner and mother. She will be sorely missed.
