Cats, Griz continue early season dominance at home

BOZEMAN (AP) — Sean Chambers accounted for four touchdowns and Montana State rolled to a 63-13 victory over Morehead State Saturday.

Chambers threw an 11-yard TD pass to Willie Patterson and an 8-yarder to Clevan Thomas while Morehead State answered each with turnovers on fumbles about six minutes into the game. Marqui Johnson broke loose on a 23-yard touchdown run and Taco Dowler added a 67-yard punt return for a score and the Bobcats lead 28-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Chambers completed 3 of 7 passes for 30 yards. He added scoring runs from 55 and 14 yards in the second half and finished with 127 yards rushing. Tommy Mellott was 16-of-22 passing for 265 yards with a pair of TD passes for fourth-ranked Montana State (2-0).

Nathan Hazlett kicked two field goals for Morehead State (0-2).

The No. 4 Bobcats are now 2-0 ahead of their first road game, an FBS showdown with undefeated Oregon State Saturday night in Portland.

Griz 24, South Dakota 7

MISSOULA (AP) — Lucas Johnson was 22-of-28 passing for 180 yards and a touchdown, and he added two rushing scores to lead Montana past South Dakota 24-7 Saturday.

Johnson had running scores of 4 and 24 yards in the first quarter to build a 13-0 lead. His 12-yard touchdown pass to Junior Bergen made it 22-0 with 4:37 left in the first half.

Montana's streak of seven straight quarters without allowing a team to score ended with 6:27 left in the fourth quarter. But the Grizzlies' defense responded with a safety by Braxton Hill with less than a minute to play.

Johnson carried it 13 times for 75 yards and Junior Bergen caught six passes for 35 yard and a touchdown for Montana (2-0).

Carson Camp passed for 119 yards for South Dakota (0-2). Travis Theis carried it 20 times for 88 yards and a touchdown.

The 2-0 Griz head to Indiana State this Saturday for their first road test.
