Local Golf Report: Former HHS golfers playing well

From Tee to Green

Last week was a historic one for the Montana State University-Northern men's and women's golf teams. Last Monday and Tuesday in Shelby, the Lights and Skylights hosted the MSU-Northern Invitational, a Frontier Conference Tournament at Marias Valley Golf Club.

The Skylights didn't have a scoring team, in the tournament which was won by Rocky Mountain College, but ShaAnn Danelson paced 25th with a 201, while Molly Hamilton took 26th with a 203 and Savannah Toms finished in 28th place with a score of 233.

The Lights finished in fourth place overall, while Rocky finished first. T.J. Reynolds shot 250 for 19th place, while Gerit Johnson tied for 21st, Micaiah Hauser shot 261 and Kyler Cassel finished at 265.

Two former Blue Pony golfers were also in the field in Shelby last week. From the Class of 2022, Caleb Spangler played for Carroll College, while Theron Peterson competed for the Lights.

It was great to see Northern host a Frontier Conference tournament, and I hope this will be something the program can continue to do, if not every year, biannually, or something along those lines. So great job to Jim Kirkpatrick and the entire Northern program.

The Lights and Skylights are playing at the Carroll College Invitational this week.

Speaking of programs, the Havre High golf teams have reached their postseason. The Blue Ponies travel to Lake Hills in Billings for the Eastern A this Friday. Good luck Ponies.

On the local front, the Club Championship at Beaver Creek Golf Course was called off last Sunday, as the tournament season continues to wind down.

And speaking of winding down, next Tuesday will be our final From Tee to Green for the golf season. Email me anything you may want in before next Monday.
