Letter to the Editor - Congress needs to follow Tester's lead on pharmacy benefit managers

Dear editor,

Last month, at a constituent town hall, Sen. Jon Tester stood up for patients not just in Montana, but across the country.

He said pharmacy benefit managers — PBMs — have been preying on our pharmacies and Medicare patients for years, and he cannot identify any real value that they bring to the health care space.

I appreciate that our senator is being so vocal about this issue because I couldn’t agree more.

For the last serval years, PBMs and their sneaky practices have gone under the radar. For far too long they have been pocketing savings for their own profits that were intended to go to patients and their families when picking up medications at the pharmacy counters.

This is not right and it is time for Congress to officially investigate their policies and regulate the industry.

I hope that other members in the Montana delegation and across the House and Senate follow Sen. Tester’s lead. People could see immediate financial relief with their help.

Sincerely,

Allan Smith
