Blue Ponies ready to wrestle at the CMR Holiday Classic

While the Havre High wrestling teams have just begun their season, the 2022 portion of their schedule will already come to a close this weekend with the CMR Holiday Classic in Great Falls. With this being their last competition before the holiday break, HHS head coach Beau LaSalle wants his wrestlers to put forth their best effort on the mats.

"We expect our kids to compete hard and keep improving week in and week out," LaSalle said. "It's just another opportunity for us to sharpen our skills through the end of the year."

The Blue Ponies will compete against many programs at this weekend's tournament. Teams such as Anaconda, Belgrade, Dillon, Billings Senior, Billings Skyview, Butte Central, Cut Bank, East Helena, Lewistown, Laurel, Malta, Missoula Hellgate and Whitefish will be at the tournament. But LaSalle expects the likes of Columbia Falls, Miles City, Billings West and the AA schools to be the Ponies' toughest competition this weekend.

"Overall, it's just a tough tournament from top to bottom," LaSalle said.

If the Ponies want to compete and head into the holiday break on a strong note, their wrestlers will need to do well on the mats. Jerry Kirkaldie will wrestle for the Ponies in the 103-pound weight class this weekend while Matthew Lemer will wrestle at 113 pounds.

Teegan Solomon will wrestle at 120 pounds while Reed Mantle will compete at 126 pounds for the Ponies. Carson Harris will look to continue his strong start to the season as he will wrestle at 132 pounds this weekend. At 138 pounds, Tristian Stygles will look to do well on the mats for the Ponies.

Reinhard Bold will wrestle at 145 pounds in this tournament and Daniel Edmonds will compete at 152 pounds for the Ponies. Either Tate Nelson or Landen Caplette will wrestle at 160 pounds for the Ponies this weekend.

The Ponies will either go with Kale Van Campen or Pierce Caplette to wrestle at 170 pounds. Whoever they do not go with at 170 pounds will instead wrestle at 182 pounds this weekend. The Ponies will have either Mason Wilting or Brandon Healy wrestle at 205 pounds. At heavyweight, the Ponies will go with Tommy Lewis.

The HHS girls wrestling team will also compete at the CMR Holiday Classic in Great Falls this weekend. McKenna Caplette will wrestle at 120 pounds while Maleigha Azure will compete at 132 pounds. Both Brooke Nelson and Brooklyn Wilting will wrestle at 138 pounds for the Ponies.

Aubree Erickson will wrestle at 145 pounds and both Clara Laird and Angelina Caplette will wrestle at 185 pounds for the Ponies. Aliyah Stiffarm will look to continue her strong start to the season as she will once again wrestle at 235 pounds this weekend.

After this weekend's tournament, the Ponies will not have a large-scale tournament like this until January. With one last chance to compete in this kind of tournament for about the next month, LaSalle wants to see his wrestlers continue to grow.

"I would like to see our improvement from last week to this week," LaSalle said. "Maybe be a little more aggressive, taking more attacks, just being the aggressor more and being confident in our skills and confident in ourselves."

The HHS wrestling teams will begin the CMR Holiday Classic this Friday at 11 a.m.
