Obituary - Joseph "Joey" Louis Malsam

Joseph "Joey" Louis Malsam, 84, joined his Heavenly Father February 14, 2023.

Joey was born February 25, 1938, to Joe and Mary Malsam in Havre MT.

Joey grew up on a ranch north of Havre near the Canadian Border. He attended grade school at St. Jude's, Miller, and Cottonwood, then finished high school at Havre Central in 1956. While in high school, Joey started to rodeo and went to the high school nationals in Reno in 1956. He continued to rodeo until he went into ranching full time.

He met and married Darlene Jenkins June 22, 1963. The two worked hard and saved all their money to buy the Flynn ranch in 1966. Joey loved his ranching life.

Dad had many friends and would visit with all whenever they crossed paths. His baby blue eyes always had a sparkle and if he didn't have a smart alec remark for you, then something was wrong. He had the kindest heart yet you didn't want to cross him. He loved his family. You would always find him at any of his kids sporting events.

Joey will be missed dearly, but we will meet again to laugh and poke fun at each other. Until then, we will never forget him.

Joey is survived by his wife, Darlene Malsam; children, Karla (James) Malsam-Dudar of Alberta, Canada, Todd Malsam of Chinook, Tim (Gail) Malsam of Chinook, Katie (Ty) Lidstrom of Fairfield; grandkids, Jake, Madison, Shelby, Mitchell, Sami, Kameron, Sierra, Trent, Angus, and Kelli, brothers Don (Diane) Malsam of Billings, Rick (Jody) Malsam of TX, and Gary (Carla) Malsam of Fairview; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Malsam; brother LeRoy Malsam; sister-in-law Carla Malsam, and nephew Jay Malsam.

A Rosary will be held Sunday, February 19, at 6:00 p.m. and a funeral service will be held Monday, February 20, at 11:00 a.m. Services will be held at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Chinook.
