Out our way, one of the training issues for horses is helping them smooth out their lope by developing their right and left leads. Riders also need to develop and find the rhythm to keep it smooth. That was always an issue for me. My percussionist youngest son used to kid me about having "rhythm deficit disorder"- which makes my riding - and dancing - difficult if not impossible.

However, like Doc learning his leads, over time I began to develop a certain rough rhythm when at the trot, canter and lope. The gallop was easy as long as ole "Stumble Foot" didn't trip over his four left feet. T...
