Obituary - Desiree M. Swan

Desiree M. Swan, (mihko-wiyikwanêwiskew, Red Flicker Woman) 31, passed away March 3, 2023, in Albuquerque, NM.

Wake services will begin at 4:00 p.m. today, Thursday, March 16, 2023, and will continue until her funeral service, which will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2023, all at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Denny Family Cemetery.

Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Desiree was born on December 1, 1991, in Havre to Robin “Jay” and Ruby (Houle) Swan. She was raised in Rocky Boy, Montana and Belcourt, North Dakota, for the first several years, and then the family moved to New Mexico, where she attended Ch’ooshgai Community School, Wingate Mid and High Schools. Desiree was an exceptional student and was in Gifted and Talented Education.

After her school years, Desiree attended the Talking Leaves Job Corps in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. There she obtained her certification as a certified nursing assistant. Desiree worked as a CNA in Grants, NM for some time, and she loved that job because she especially loved working with and caring for the elderly. She later worked at The Good Samaritan Society in Albuquerque, NM.

Desiree was a self-proclaimed introvert who had a close circle of a few very good friends. Her older sister who was also her 9-day twin was her closest friend. She was a talented artist, especially with her charcoal, pencil, pen and colored pencil renderings. Desiree also dabbled in poetry and was very kind-hearted.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Houle; and her grandparents George Swan, and Daniel and Rosinna (Cree) Houle.

Desiree is survived by her daughter, Miracle Linda Rose Smith; father, Robin “Jay” (Kerenthia) Swan of Thoreau, NM; siblings, Selina Houle of Belcourt, ND, Kashena Swan of Albuquerque, NM, and Nathaniel “Nanz” Houle of Fargo, ND, and Nayo Swan and KeHugh Swan, both of Thoreau; close niece Rolanda Robynn Swan of Thoreau; grandmother Caroline (Denny) St. Marks of Fort Hall, ID; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
