Northern finishes regular season strong at UM rodeo

This past weekend in Missoula, the Montana State University-Northern rodeo teams wrapped up the regular season with a rodeo hosted by the University of Montana. At the end of the weekend, both the MSU-N men’s and women’s teams finished third in their rodeos.

In the men’s rodeo, the Lights finished with 480 total points. Montana State University won the men’s rodeo with 960 total points while Montana Western finished second. In the women’s rodeo, the Skylights scored 290 total points to finish third. MSU won the women’s rodeo with 481 total points while Western took second.

Many Lights and Skylights had strong performances to end the regular season. Ethan Frasier finished third in men’s all-around with 220 total points and he took second in bareback riding with a score of 115.0. He also took third as the team roping header.

Garrett Cunningham finished first in saddle bronc riding with a score of 143.0. Dallen Hover took third in saddle bronc riding with a score of 46.0. Chance Story took fourth in steer wrestling with a score of 31.8 and Justin Three Irons took third as the team roping heeler. Court Nugent took 10th as the team roping heeler.

Mikenna Schauer finished second in women’s all-around with 180 total points. She finished second in goat tying with a score of 15.0 and she took 10th as the team roping header with a score of 12.8. Brittany Cox finished third in barrel racing with a score of 35.51 and Georgia Orahood took third in breakaway roping with a score of 5.2.

While the regular season comes to an end, the best of the Lights and the Skylights await to hear if they qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo. The CNFR will take place in Casper, Wyoming, from June 11 to June 17.
