Jerry was born March 6, 1946, in Havre to Spencer and Margaret (Mayer) Browning. His parents divorced while he was still young, and Margaret married Bill Spitzer, who raised Jerry and his sister as his own, along with their two sons.

Jerry graduated from Havre Central High School in 1964, and entered the U.S .Army, serving until his honorable discharge. After his military service, he settled in the Seattle, Washington, area where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier.

In 1969, Jerry married Nancy Taylor, and the couple had three children. They later divorced, but remained great friends.

Jerry returned to Havre for a brief time, then moved to Helena, and then Great Falls for several years, before relocating once again, this time to Phoenix, Arizona, to be near his children.

Jerry was a wonderful, talented man, who had the sense of humor of Robin Williams, vocal talent of Marty Robbins, and could play any instrument he wanted by ear. In high school, he won an acting award. He was also a very talented writer, having published his book, "In the Shadow of the Christ," many years ago. Jerry loved golf, and music and his kids were his world.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Margaret Spitzer, and former spouse and good friend, Nancy Browning-Crane.

Jerry is survived by his children, Kelly (Sloan) Browning-Rand, Kristy Browning, and Jeff Browning, all of Phoenix; grandson, Holden Rand; siblings, Pegi (Steve) Rambo and Jack (Jaynee) Spitzer, all of Havre, and Rob (Kelly) Spitzer of Dillon; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
