Leonard was born November 15, 1941, in Havre to Marvin and Eva (Sanguine) Beck. He was raised on the family homestead southwest of Havre, graduating from Havre High School in 1960.

Leonard married Gloria Cross in 1966, and the couple had seven children.

Leonard helped on the family farm and ranch throughout his life.

Leonard was a kind and gentle man who loved to read. He enjoyed making things with wood and used reclaimed lumber from pallets to make many projects. Leonard also enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in the Bear Paws, where he could identify nearly every plant around. He was active in his children and grandchildren's lives and could be found driving them around the backroads of Montana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Eva Beck.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Gloria Beck of West Yellowstone; children, Russell (Marlyn Hardman) Beck of Columbia Falls, Arlene Carr, Roxanne Beck, and Charlene "Charly" Beck, all of West Yellowstone, Sonya Barkley of Hingham, Charles L. JAMES BROWN writes:

Leonard Beck was one of the good guys. We knew each other at HHS & were in the band together. I wish I could have been able to meet up with him in my annual trips to Havre but we never got together. I was blessed to have him as friend.
