Miles Butte hike set for Sunday

People have been invited to join Havre Trails and Hays-Lodge Pole High School science teacher Rod Benson for a hike up Miles Butte south of Chinook Sunday, Oct. 15.

A Havre trails flyer says the hike is 4 miles total, roundtrip, on private land. The top of the butte offers a scenic vista of the surrounding landscape, Bear Paw Mountains to the south and McCann Butte and the open plains to the north.

The flyer says the hike is 4 miles total, taking about 3 hours. It is rated as difficult with no trail, no trees, and fairly steep the whole way with 1,660’ gain
The flyer says the hike is best for hikers in good shape and is not suitable for children under 16.
People going on the hike should leave Havre around 9:15 a.m. and meet at the Bear Paw Battlefield south of Chinoook at 10 am. The battlefield is 16 miles south of Chinook on Cleveland Road, Route 240, 38 miles from Havre. It is another 14 miles from there to the hike starting point, and about 5 of those miles are on good gravel.
The return time to Havre approximately 2:30 pm.
The flyer reminds people that no dogs will be allowed on the hike, people should wear pants rather than shorts, sturdy boots, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, water, snacks and a lunch and have a ull tank of gas!
