Kaftan wins national award for essay on patriotism

St. Jude Thaddeus School student Kenan Kaftan was presented an national award by the American Legion Auxiliary Americanism Project Wednesday, for an essay he wrote on patriotism.
The award was presented just after Mass that morning by Americanism Program Havre Chair Marlyn Damson, along with a trophy and a letter from the project's national chair Michele DeGennaro.
"It was a privilege for me to read your remarkable essay on 'what does patriotism mean to you?' I found it enjoyable and insightful," Damson said, reading from DeGennaro's letter.
