Havre man dies in crash in Phillips County

Filed 10:10 a.m. June 10, 2024

A 39-year-old man died in a single-vehicle crash in Philips County early Friday morning.

Phillips County Coroner was not available this morning when Havre Weekly Chronicle called to see if the name of the crash victim has been released.

Montana Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred on U.S. Highway 2 at Mile Marker 462 near Malta.

The Ford F-150 driven by the man was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 2 at 5:25 a.m. Friday when it drifted off the right side of the road and hit a delineator, the crash report said. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle reentered the highway. The pickup then went into a passenger-side skid and crossed the center line.

The vehicle rolled and entered the eastbound ditch, the report said, rolling one more time. The pickup came to rest on its wheels about 80 feet of the road in the eastbound ditch facing east. It sustained significant damage to its top and right side.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, the report said, and was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital.
