Pony golfers play well leading up to the postseason

The summer has come and gone, and that means it’s time for postseason golf as the Havre Blue Ponies head to the Eastern A Divisional Tournament this week in Laurel.

Before Havre gets to the tournament in Laurel, the Ponies turned in two good performances last week on the road. Last Thursday, Havre played at the Billings Central Invitational with the Pony girls finishing fourth and the HHS boys fifth.

The Pony girls were led by Tierra Parker’s personal best score of 95, while Lilliana Smith shot 99, Callie Bebee finished with a 102 and Madison Reber shot 107. On the boys side, Matt Huse had a Top 15 with an 80, while Callen Stoner shot 82, Quinn Elliott 85, Noah Barrett 86 and Evan Alisch 97.

Havre turned right around and played the Laurel Invite last Friday. The tournament was a great tune-up for this week’s Eastern A. The HHS boys finished fourth at Laurel, as Huse shot 82, Stoner 87, Elliott 91, Barrett 86 and Alisch 96. The Pony girls finished fifth as Parker shot 106, Bebee 112, Smith 109 and Reber 117.

With the regular season now over the Ponies will return to the difficult Laurel Country Club where they’ll play 18 holes to qualify for the Class A state tournament next week in Polson. The Eastern A is composed of Havre, Laurel, Billings Central, Sidney, Glendive, Miles City, East Helena, Lewistown and Lockwood. The top four teams and Top 25 individual qualifiers from the boys and girls fields will advance to the State A Tournament Oct. 4-5 in Polson.
