  • Local teen aims to bring suicide awareness to community

    For the past 30 years, Montana has ranked among the top five states with the highest rates of suicide in all age groups. According to the 2015 "Suicide Prevention in Montana Legislative Update," in 2013, there were 231 suicides in Montana for a rate of 22.8 per 100,000 people compared to a national rate of around 13 per 100,000 people.   • New Rocky Boy elections canceled

    The recent court decision ordering a new election at Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation has been appealed, and the new Chippewa Cree Business Committee members will have to wait to be seated. Lynn Fagen, the attorney representing the election board against Jonathan Windy Boy, said she filed for the appeal Friday, and it should be accepted in the tribal appellate court soon.   • Man charged after jail disturbance

    A Havre man faces additional charges after he allegedly caused a disturbance in the Hill County Detention Center. Casey O. Mummey of Havre, born in 1980, has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon. Mummey was in the Hill County Detention Center this morning on $30,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 22.   • Contention arises over Interior Rocky Boy ruling

    An attorney for Ken St. Marks says the U.S. Department of Interior of ruled that he was dismissed as Chippewa Cree tribal chair because of his whistleblower activities. But the department has not issued a decision on what relief he should receive, said Martha King. She took exception to a Havre Daily News story saying St. Marks had been reinstated.     New details have surfaced concerning the man who is being held on suspicion of carrying dangerous drugs on a train in October. Mohamed Yasin Aboubaker, born in 1981, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, has been charged with two counts of criminal possession with intent to distribute and one count of carrying dangerous drugs on a train. Aboubaker was in the Hill County Detention Center this morning on $75,000 bond. His trial is scheduled for May 27.   • Child sexting hearing next week

    New details have surfaced concerning the Havre man who is being held on suspicion of sexual abuse of children by sexting with his cellphone. Wilford Tilden, who was born in 1982, of Havre has been charged with one count of sexual abuse of children and two counts of privacy in communications. If convicted, Tilden faces up to life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Tilden was in the Hill County Detention Center this morning on $2,000 bond.     The Rev. Marvin Eldridge of Fort Benton, Montana, graduated from this life Dec. 13, 2014. He has joined his wife, Betty Jo, in the presence of Jesus. Marvin was born Sept. 13, 1932, in Arlee, Montana, to Bert and Nettie Eldridge. He grew up on the family farm and loved playing sports. On May 19, 1950, Marvin married Betty Jo Lemmon.
