Former Havre High star and current University of Montana senior Sammy Evans has been named the Big Sky Conference Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this spring. Evans is one of the top triple jumpers in the NCAA West Region.
University of Montana track and field star, and former Havre Blue Pony Sammy Evans has once again been named Big Sky Conference Athlete of the Week.
Evans jumped 42 feet, 8.25 inches to win the triple jump Saturday at the Montana Open at Dornblaser Field. Evan's broker her own school record of 42 feet, 0.75 inches and her facility record of 41 feet, 11.5 inches. With that jump she moved up to sixth on the all-time Big Sky performance list.
Evans is currently first in the Big Sky in the triple by nearly two feet. She is ranked 15th in the NCAA West Region.
Evans will compete in her final regular season meet Friday when the Grizzlies attend the Tom Gage Classic in Bozeman. Then, it’s on to the Big Sky Championships May 10-13 in Sacramento, California. Evans is already pre-qualified for the NCAA West Regional, May 25-27 in Austin, Texas.
