Cold weather mars opening of men's league

The weather didn't really cooperate like most had hoped. But the first week of men's league golf is in the books none the less. Here's a look back at the opening week of golf action at Beaver Creek Golf Course.

On last Tuesday night, three teams tied for high team with 22 points. Those teams included Stockman Bank, AG Wise and U.S. Bank. Low gross went to Eric Fee with a 2-over-par 38 and low net was Dennis Kannberg with a stellar 28.

Last Wednesday night saw another three-way tie for high team at 22 points. Those teams included Clausen and Sons, Michelob Light and Raymond James Financial Services. Low gross was also a three-way tie between Rick Reynolds, Chuck Wimmer and Scott McLean. All three players fired rounds of 38 in bitter cold temperatures. Low net for the night belonged to Steve Steinmetz with a 31.

Tournament play also started on Sunday with the annual Men's League Kick-Off Scramble.

The team of Mike Purkett, Greg Munson, Lowell Swenson and Dave Hamilton brought home the title with a net score of 62 to edge the team of Trent Normandy, Don Normandy, Brett Normandy and Brad Dugdale, which finished with a net 63.

Besides being a part of the winning team, Hamilton reached a career milestone, nailing his first hole-in-one. He scored the ace on the the par-3 174-yard No. 17 with a five iron. Swenson, Munson and Purkett witnessed the shot.
