Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup

After two weeks of nonconference and preseason matches, the high school volleyball season really got going this weekend on the Hi-Line.

Things started with a bang on Friday night with a pair of rivalry matches.

In Chester, the Chester/J-I Hawks outlasted the Big Sandy Pioneers in a five-set thriller. The Hawks beat the Pioneers by scores of 23-25, 25-12, 20-25, 25-22 and 15-2 in what was a back and forth affair.

The Hawks got 11 kills, eight digs and three blocks from Jenni Ghekiere, while Kate Graff had eight digs and four aces.

The Pioneers were led by Shaylee Cook with six digs and three aces while Ashley Alderdice had two kills.

In Rudyard on Friday night, the North Star Knights upset the Chinook Sugarbeeters in another five-set match and the win gave the Knights an early leg up in the 6C East standings. The Knights won by scores of 25-12, 18-25, 12-25, 25-21 and 15-12 as they came back from a 2-1 deficit to win.

Shelby Lipp had 15 kills and eight digs for the Knights, while Lisa Carlon had 12 assists and six aces.

Chinook got 11 kills, three aces and three blocks from Makhayla Farmer in the loss.

The Beeters lost to North Star after beating Hays-Lodge Pole by scores of 25-0, 25-2 and 25-13 on Thursday night.

The loss to North Star stung some, but the Beeters bounced back on Saturday with a sweep of Big Sandy. The Beeters beat the Pioneers by scores of 25-14, 25-21 and 25-19.

Shayna Gilead had three kills for the Pioneers while Farmer had eight kills and five blocks. Katie Diemert had 10 assists and three aces for the Beeters as well.

Chinook is now 3-1 on the season while the Pioneers are 0-3.

North Star kept its winning ways going Saturday with a sweep of Power by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-21.

The Knights (2-1) got 10 kills, two digs and a block from Lipp, while Lisa Carlon had eight assists and four aces and Bettie Carlon added eight assists as well.

In Class B action on Saturday, Harlem suffered its second loss of the week, falling in Glasgow by scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 27-25.

Laci Snider had a good match for the Wildcats with four kills, nine digs and two aces. Harlem also lost to Malta on Friday night in three sets.

In Cut Bank on Saturday, the Rocky Boy Morning Stars were swept by the Cut Bank Wolves in a District 1B match. The Wolves beat the Morning Stars by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-18.

Tennae Singer six kills and eight digs for Rocky Boy, while Tasha Big Knife chipped in with three blocks and two aces.

In local action today, Rocky Boy visits Big Sandy and Chester/J-I travels to North Star.
