HHS track teams host Lewistown, Malta

The Havre High track and field team has been on the move seemingly non stop the last several weeks. The Blue Ponies are coming off of their most recent outing at the Top 10 meet in Glasgow, and will now return home for the final time this regular season.

Saturday the Ponies will host the conference rival Lewistown Golden Eagles and non conference Class B Malta Mustangs for a triangular. The triangular will be held at the Havre middle school track and will get started at 10 a.m.

The Ponies have consistently bettered their times and marks throughout the season, but both the Eagles and Mustangs house some top athletes.

Malta just had their top performers compete along side the Ponies at the Top 10 in Glasgow, and grabbed quite a few top places. The Mustangs are led by Tucker Schye (100), Jake Bushman (200), Tate Carney (800), Kyle Boos (110 hurdles), Quinta Boos (300 hurdles), Kaden Bedwell (javelin) and Sam Peterson (triple jump). And the M-Ettes are led by the likes of Darby Schye (400 and shot put), Jessica Cole (1600), Brenna King (shot pot), Kimberly Brown (javelin) and Courtney Henry (javelin). The boys' short relay also turned in the best time in Glasgow (44.97), while the boys' long relay finished in 3:39.3, good enough for second place.

The Eagles also have a handful of top performers that will challenge the Ponies.

Brock Butcher (200 and 400), Ryan McKinney (400 and 800) and Dylan Stenseth (javelin) have come up big for the Eagles all season. Their short relay time in the mid to low 40 seconds will also be tough to beat.

The Eagle girls have a lot more talent, and even placed second at the Belgrade Invite earlier this season. They are led by the likes of Kiera Bulluck (200, 100, 300 hurdles, high jump and long jump), McCalle Feller (400, javelin, high jump and tirple jump), Delainy Tedesco (1600) and 3200) and Jada Scheffelmaer (hurdles and high jump).

For the Ponies to stay competitive on Saturday, they need to have a solid outing across the board. It is going to take a team effort, including the top performers grabbing points, as well as some new names stepping up.

Kade Rismon has been coming on strong in the shot put, and narrowly missed the Top 10 meet. And with Garrett Aguillard back in the lineup, he too adds much needed points in the distance races. Skylar Vukasin (high jump) and Kaylie Gilman (high jump) have also stepped up in recent weeks for the girls' squad.

Mason Case (100 and 200), Marc Klimas (distance), Thurman Holdsclaw (pole vault), Matt Emge (pole vault), Thomas Gruber (pole vault), Zach Plum (pole vault), Sammy Evans (100, long jump, triple jump and high jump), Ashlynn VanVoast (middle distance), Peyton Filius (middle distance) and Lacey Waid (pole vault) have also led the Ponies this season, and will challenge for top spots this weekend.

With divisionals just around the corner, the Ponies need to perform well. They have steadily shown improvement, and that has been their goal all season long. And with Lewistown in attendance, this will be one last chance for the Ponies to match their marks and times against that of what they will see at the divisional meet.

Havre, Lewistown and Malta will face off in a triangular meet on Saturday at the Havre middle school track in Havre. The meet will start at 10 a.m.
