Local Golf Report: An ace for Havre's Peterson

With the Fourth of July holiday falling in the middle of the week, it was fairly quiet on the golf front over the past seven days.

Still, several events highlighted another week of summer golf in Havre and on the Hi-Line.

Longtime Havre golfer Frank Peterson recorded his second career hole-in-one last Friday at Prairie Farms Golf Course in Havre. Peterson aced the par-4 third hole with a 6-iron from 144 yards away. The shot was witnessed by Rick Floren, Barry Zanto and Alan Pearson. The ace was the first at Prairie Farms in over two months.

Last Saturday saw many golfers turn out for the annual Havre Public Schools Foundation Scramble at Prairie Farms. The event is a four-person scramble and helps raises money for the HPSF. A reported good time and some good golf was had by all who participated, and I'd like to take time to thank all who turned out for the event as it's an important cause for our school district.

There was no golf league last week as the holiday halted play for the week. Men's league at Prairie Farms resumes tonight and Wednesday as teams start the push towards qualifying for the playoffs in the second half of the season.

On Thursday night, the ladies will resume their season as well at Prairie Farms, as will men's league at Beaver Creek Golf Course.

Youth golfers around the area can now sign up for the Rotary Golf Camp, which will be held July 24-26 at Prairie Farms. The camp is open to golfers ages eight through seniors in high school. The cost is $25 per golfer and there are discounts for multiple family members. Tuesday and Wednesday will feature golf instruction and Thursday, a tournament will be held. To sign up, call Prairie Farms at 265-4790.
