Tech pulls away from Northern in Butte

The Montana State University-Northern Lights put a first-half scare into the No. 7 Montana Tech Orediggers Saturday afternoon in Butte. But, that's all it turned out to be, as the Orediggers scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to put away the Lights 35-10 in a Frontier Conference clash.

Tech jumped out to a 14-0 lead in just the first four minutes of the game, but, the Lights responded with a Jess Krahn TD pass, trailing 14-7 midway through the first. The Northern defense held up for the entire rest of the second quarter, and much of the third, until Tech's offense scored back-to-back TDs late in the stanza to break the game open. Northern tacked on a late FG, and the MSU-N defense held Tech star running Nolan Saraceni to just 46 yards rushing. Zach McKinley piled up 107 yards for the Lights, with 103 of them coming in the first half.

With the loss, Northern dropped to 0-2 on the season, ahead of this Saturday's showdown with Carroll College at Blue Pony Stadium.
