Local Golf Report: It's early, but we enjoyed the heat

From Tee to Green...

I’m guessing that this weekend was one for the record books as far as local golfers are concerned. After all, how often does anybody around here get to play in 90 degree weather with little or no wind for two straight days, on the first weekend of May?

If I was asked that question, my answer would be almost never. But that was the case last weekend, and here’s hoping all of you who got to play in those conditions, wherever you were, had a great time.

The weather was also good for league golf in the area last week. Men’s league at Prairie Farms saw week two last Tuesday and Wednesday, while Beaver Creek Golf Course had its second week last week as well.

At Prairie Farms, last Tuesday night saw Wagner Plumbing earn high-team honors with 23.5 points. The team was composed of Dan Wagner, Barry Zanto, Greg Baltrusch and Russ Earl. Jeremy Jensen was low gross with a 37, while Tyler Gibson was low net at 30.

Last Wednesday night, it was Michelob Light who was high team with 23.5 points as well. Jim Kato, Tom Adams, Scott Adams and Chad Spangler made up the team. Jensen and Kato shared low gross, each shooting 37, while Alex Chvilicek was low net with a 30.

Women’s league at Prairie Farms is also scheduled to get underway this Thursday night at Prairie Farms. Good luck with your season ladies.

This past weekend wasn’t just hot for adult local golfers either. Our local high school golf teams also got in on the great conditions. Last Friday, Harlem hosted the Harlem Invitational and Chinook took its turn, hosting the Chinook Invitational on Saturday at the Chinook Golf Club. I know everybody playing in those two events enjoyed it as our prep B-C golfers rarely get to play in warm weather. Usually, those kids are forced to play in windy, cold, rainy and sometimes even snowy conditions for much of the spring. So, from a guy who coaches a spring sport, I’m happy for our Chinook, Harlem and Rocky Boy golfers that they got to play in the fun and sun last week.

Those teams will also wrap up their regular season this week, before heading to the Class B and C state tournaments next week.
