Skylights picked sixth in Frontier Conference preseason volleyball poll

The Montana State University-Northern Skylights have started fall training camp for the upcoming volleyball season, and at the same time, the Frontier Conference recently released its 2018 Preseason Volleyball Coaches Poll.

The Skylights, who finished 2017, the first year under head coach Rose Obunaga, in sixth place in the Frontier, were picked sixth in the new coaches poll, just ahead of UM-Western.

The league's coaches tabbed Montana Tech to win the Frontier title in 2018, with the Orediggers receiving four of the first-place votes. Rocky Mountain College was picked to finish second, with Carroll College third.

The rest of the poll saw Lewis-Clark State and Providence tied fourth, followed by Northern and Western.

The Skylights will open the season with a preseason match at home against Medicine Hat College Aug. 21, before heading to the Big Sky Challenge Aug. 24-25 in Butte. Northern's non-conference schedule also includes a trip to the Bellevue College Tournament Aug. 31-Sept. 1, as well as The University of Providence Tournament Sept. 7-8. The Skylights open Frontier Conference play Sept. 14-15 with home matches against LC State and Montana Tech, respectively.
