From tee to green: Playoff time for local golf leagues

It’s about that time, playoff time for golf leagues in and around the Havre golf area.

And actually, the playoffs started for the ladies last Thursday night at Prairie Farms Golf Course.

In the opening round of the playoffs, Havre Heating & AC defeated Independence Bank, Double R beat Scharfe, Kato & Co., Patrick Construction took down Prairie Farms Golf Course, and Northern Montana Hospital defeated D.A. Davidson. Sarah Spangler was low gross with a 39, while Jill Reber was low net at 30.5. The ladies continue their playoffs this Thursday with the semifinals.

Meanwhile, the regular season of men’s league golf ended last Thursday night at Beaver Creek Golf Course. Grip It N Sip It and Nailvka’s shared high-team honors with 23 points. Grip It N Sip It, which also captured the men’s league regular season championship, was composed of Frank Henry, Jeff Henry, Neal Rosette Jr. and Ed Parisian. Nalivka’s was made up of Paul Jensen, Matt Jensen, Tanner Veis and Craig Guenther. Low gross went to A.J. Lamere with an even-par 36, while Tony Woods and Clayton Parsons shared low net at 31.

The first night of the playoffs begin this Thursday with BCGC taking on Vine 19, Team Kaare battling Gram’s, Grip It N Sip It facing off with Nalivka’s and New Concept Lawn taking on Havre Rental.

There is just one week left in the men’s league season at Prairie Farms. Last Tuesday saw Tilleman Motors take high-team honors with 22.5 points. The team was composed of Brent Reber, Craig Tilleman, Larry Tilleman and Jacob Lorang. Jeremy Jensen was sizzling with a 33 to earn low gross, while Larry Tilleman was low net at 29.

Last Wednesday saw Michelob Light take high team with 26 points. Jim Kato, Tom Adams, Jim Heberly and Chad Spangler composed the team. Jensen was low gross again, shooting an even 36, while Lowell Swenson was low net with a 29.5.

I need to also take this time to recognize my good friend Jim Kirkpatrick for finishing second in his flight at last week’s Montana State Senior Am. Jim maybe old enough to play in the senior am now, but clearly he can still go low, and he’s an OK fisherman too.

Finally, it was a hot week at local golf courses, but it didn’t have any effect on Megan Obrecht who scored a hole-in-one at BCGC on Sunday. Obrecht aced the par-3 4th hole from 147 yards out with a 3-wood. The shot was witnessed by Todd Obrecht. Congrats Megan.
