Plenty of coaching changes on the Hi-Line

Chinook will have a new girls basketball coach this winter, but he will be a familiar face.

Sugarbeeter football coach Mike Jones will also be taking over the girls basketball job this season.

Jones came to Chinook last year and took the reigns as the Sugarbeeter’s football coach.

Jones is one of several coaching changes that have been announced along the Hi-Line this year. At Box Elder, Joel Rosette has moved to Spokane, and LaVon Meyers took a job in Las Vegas, so the Bears will have two new basketball coaches this winter.

Of course, big news on the wrestling scene came earlier this year when Lyle Faulkinberry announced he was coming out of retirement to start coach the Wildcats on the mat again.

Meanwhile, Havre High is undergoing a few coaching changes as well, including a new cross country coach this fall, and a new swimming coach this winter.

The fall sports season is quickly approaching, with the first day of practice for football, volleyball and cross country set for Aug. 16. The Blue Pony volleyball team opens its season at the Eastern A Tip-Off in Laurel Aug. 30-31, while the HHS cross country teams start their season in Cut Bank Sept. 6. The Havre High golf teams are the first to get going, with the Great Falls Invitational Aug. 19-20, followed by the Havre Invitational Aug. 22 at Prairie Farms Golf Course.
