Hi-Line Athlete Profile: Zach Monk, Havre High Football

Zach Monk looks to make most out of his senior year on the Blue Pony football team

As Havre youth prepare for their return to school this fall, their student-athletes also begin to prepare for the return of fall sports. Some of these student-athletes will be getting ready for their senior year at Havre High School, so they hope to make their last year as a Blue Pony a memorable one. One of those seniors is Zach Monk, who is preparing for his final season in HHS football. With just one year left as a Pony, he wants to help the team reach new heights.

"I hope that we can make it to state this year," Monk said. "That would be a big goal to accomplish and that would be really great."

Monk attended the Blue Pony Football Camp Monday in hopes of getting better before the season begins. While it is still being determined what position he will play on offense this season, he will play defensive end for the Ponies this year which is his favorite position.

"It's just really fun being able to be physical out there. Test yourself against someone who's bigger than you," said Monk on what he enjoys about playing defensive end.

Monk has been playing football since the seventh grade. He originally got into the sport because of his friend Derek Olson. Since then he has enjoyed football not just for the sport itself but because of the camaraderie he gets to experience with teammates.

"It's just really fun. Getting out here and hanging out with everybody, getting to know the team," Monk said.

Monk will begin his senior year when the Ponies start their season at home Aug. 27 with a game against Sidney. In between his preparations for his final year, the Havre Daily News got the chance to ask Monk a few questions.

HDN: What's your favorite football memory?

Monk: "I want to say it was two years ago when Joey Byrd picked off the ball against Lewistown."

Monk: "I'm really interested in track. I like to run in the 100-meter sprint and 200-meter sprint, and I like to throw the javelin. It's just about the competition. It's fun."

HDN: Do you have any favorite movies or television shows?

Monk: "I guess my favorite movie would probably be 'Transformers.' That's just something I grew up on."
