Seven Blue Ponies named all-conference

With another season of high school softball over, it is now time to recognize the best players on the diamond this past spring. After a season that featured the first Northeast A Divisional title, the Havre High softball team was well represented on the all-state and all-conference teams to end the season.

On the Class A All-State team, Avery Carlson, Molly Huse, Alyssa Oliver and Lizzi Haney represented the Blue Ponies. Carlson played on both sides of the plate this season for the Ponies. At the plate, she was second on the team with a .507 batting average and led the Ponies with a .630 on-base percentage. She also recorded 23 RBIs and led the team with 48 runs scored.

Carlson also made an impact on the mound for Havre. While she had a 6.217 ERA, she had a 6-3 record in her 12 games started and 14 games played for Havre. She recorded 55 strikeouts on the year compared to 41 walks.

After a rough few years, Huse finally got to make an impact for the Ponies. At the plate, she led the team with a .529 batting average and 45 RBIs. She also recorded six home runs and a .583 on-base percentage this past spring.

In her final year with the Ponies, Oliver posted a .461 batting average and a .518 on-base percentage. Her hits were timely as she knocked in 35 RBIs and six home runs this season.

Haney also hit the ball well as she recorded a .400 batting average, a .471 on-base percentage and 24 RBIs.

With their all-state nods, all four of these players were named to the all-conference Northeast A for their seasons. Several other Ponies made the all-conference teams. On the second team all-conference team, freshman Camille Keeley was honored after recording a .400 batting average, a .507 on-base percentage and 23 RBIs. She was also reliable behind the plate as she was the catcher for 103 innings this season.

Danni Wirtzberger was also named second team all-conference for her performance this past season. At the plate, she posted a .231 batting average, a .296 on-base percentage, 14 RBIs and 21 runs scored. She also played reliable defense as she had a fielding percentage of .878.

One last Pony to make an all-conference team was Hannah Gingery, who was named honorable mention in the Northeast A. She posted a .286 batting average, a .346 on-base percentage and 15 RBIs.

With the contributions of all these players, the Ponies won the Northeast A, qualified for the state tournament and finished with a 15-9-1 record this past spring. While the Ponies will lose players such as Oliver, the rest of the all-conference players will return for another year to hopefully build off this year's success.
