Hi-Line Boys BB: Rocky Boy, Box Elder boys win big conference games

Hi-Line Boys Basketball Roubdup

High school boys basketball continued across the Hi-Line this past week. Over the course of several games, some teams set themselves up for success with the postseason nearing while others stumbled.

The week started this past Tuesday when the Chinook Sugarbeeters played a District 9C game against the Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds. It was a close game, but the Sugarbeeters pulled out the 55-48 victory on the road to start the week.

The HLP Thunderbirds continued their week with a 74-51 loss on the road to Rocky Boy Thursday night. Rocky Boy started the game by taking a 19-11 lead in the first quarter but exploded in the second quarter to take a 42-19 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Morning Stars cruised to victory to start their week.

Over in Harlem Thursday, the Harlem Wildcats suffered an 82-49 loss to the visiting Malta Mustangs. The Mustangs jumped on them early as they took a 30-12 lead in the first quarter. By halftime, Malta had a 46-27. The Wildcats were unable to come back as Malta pulled away in the second half to win.

After winning to start the week, the Chinook Sugarbeeters hosted Big Sandy Thursday night. Despite the strong start to the week, the Sugarbeeters could not keep pace as the Pioneers won, 72-42, on the road.

In a 9C matchup Friday night in Chester, the visiting Box Elder Bears defeated the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks 71-53. After taking a 16-10 lead in the first quarter, the Bears continued to play well to take a 32-21 lead into halftime.

Over the course of the second half, the Knights pulled away to easily win the game.

Down in Fort Benton, the Fort Benton Longhorns opened their week with a 51-35 win over the Turner Tornadoes. While it was a tough start to the week for Turner, the Tornadoes rebounded Saturday with a 54-48 win over the CJI Hawks at home. The Tornadoes started the game strong taking a 15-7 lead in the first quarter. But the Hawks stayed in the game as Turner only had a 25-18 lead heading into halftime.
