Local Golf Report: Long winter still affecting local golf

Finally some sun, and some warmer weather came to Havre. Unfortunately that warmer weather might keep people off of local golf courses for a little while yet.

With so much late winter and early spring snow, courses will certainly be wet, and minor flooding around the Havre area is also occurring right now, so golfers will once again have to wait patently to finally get on the links in Havre and other courses around the Hi-Line.

Of course, golf plans do continue. Flooding will prevent the annual men’s league meeting at Prairie Farms from being held at the club house, so it will instead be held Tuesday night at the Baltrusch Farm Shop. Please have at least one representative from your team in attendance. New teams are welcome! We will set our start and end dates for league, along with the date for the Men’s Club Championship.

Another date to keep in mind is the annual Beers for a Cure, which is set for Triple Dog Brewing on April 20. The event is a fundraising event for Golfing For a Cure, which is one of the best, and most meaningful tournaments each year in Havre.

While golf isn’t being played outside just yet in the Havre area, the Montana State University-Northern men’s and women’s golf teams will get to play some golf soon.

Next Monday-Wednesday, the Lights and Skylights will be in Las Vegas for the Frontier Conference championships. This year’s Frontier tourney will be held at Reflection Bay in Henderson, Nevada. The tournament was moved from Boise, Idaho, where it was held in horrible spring conditions last season. So good luck to my buddy Jim Kirkpatrick and the Lights and Skylights. I’ll have full results in a future From Tee to Green.

And lastly, speaking off horrible conditions, what an amazing Master’s Tournament. It was exciting, riveting and a lot of fun to watch. And I’m glad my best friend Rick Reynolds was there to see a lot of it. Way to go on making a big bucket list come true Rick.
