  • Murder trial arguments start today

    The state District Court in Havre spent all day Tuesday selecting a jury in the trial of Shane Clark Johnson, born in 1968, accused of murdering his brother Travis Johnson in their shared basement apartment Nov. 9. The jury of 12 and two alternates was sworn in and dismissed about 4:15 p.m., with Judge Dan Boucher telling them to be back by 8:45 this morning for the start of the trial itself, after thanking and dismissing the jury pool members not selected for their service.... Full story

  • School board to decide on Mat Corner, renovation penalties

    At a special Havre District School Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday afternoon, the trustees discussed the choices they will have to make regarding the Mat Corner and whether or not to charge a penalty to the contractors in charge of the renovations at Havre High School and Sunnyside Intermediate. Superintendent of Havre Public Schools Andy Carlson said it was his suggestion that the board sell the Mat Corner.   • Hello Walk painted for Northern homecoming

    To kick off homecoming week at Montana State University-Northern, many organizations and clubs painted a step on the "Hello Walk" Tuesday. The repainting of the Hello Walk is a tradition at the university in which, every year during homecoming, the steps outside of the Student Union Building get a facelift from the wear and tear it experienced during the year before.     Havre Jaycees Fifteen cars took part in Saturday's Bump ’N’ Run sponsored by the Havre Jaycees. Heat 1 winner was Dustin McKinney from Great Falls, and Heat 2 winner was Mark Gooch from Havre.   • MSU-N rodeo teams ride in Miles City

    The Montana State University-Northern men’s and women’s rodeo teams are almost done with the fall portion of the Big Sky Region Schedule. Last weekend, the Lights and Skylights were in Miles City for the Miles Community College Rodeo, and one Light had a great performance. Northern freshman Alan Gobert scored 75 points in his first ride in the bull riding competition and wound up finishing in second place overall.     In the 1970s, the former Montana State Women’s Bowling Association started an awards program for women bowling in the state tournaments. After the merger of the associations, that program has continued with a pin given to women who bowl in the tournament for 10 years.
