Local Golf Report: Breast Cancer tourney up next

From Tee to Green

The local golf season sure is heating up. Hot temperatures in the Havre area certainly are making for good golf conditions, though frequent thunderstorms are also getting in the way at times too.

Still, the tournament season is now well under way at local golf courses, and especially at Prairie Farms Golf Course. This past Saturday, the MSU-Northern NLASF Scramble was held at Prairie Farms, and as usual, a good time was had by all. The annual tournament helps raise money for the Northern Lights Athletic Scholarship Foundation, and is a strongly supported event.

And the tourney schedule will keep on going with this Saturday’s Havre Women Fighting Breast Cancer Tournament. The three-woman, 9-hole scramble begins Saturday morning, and in this golfer’s opinion, is one of the most honorable, and worthwhile golf tournaments around. A caddie auction will be held Friday night as well, while the entire event helps raise money for breast cancer research and awareness. Good luck and have fun ladies!

Last Tuesday night, in men’s league at Prairie Farms, Rock Solid scored 23 points to earn high-team honors. The team was composed of Gary Baltrusch, Rob Myers, Jared Boyce and Gary Stremcha. Jim Kirkpatrick continued his recent fine play with a 1-under-par 35 to earn low gross, while Jared Weigel was low net with a 29.5.

Last Wednesday night saw Valley Furniture score 23.5 points to take high-team honors. The team was made up of Mike Evans, Cal Wirtzberger, Mike Peterson and Kerry Ward. Matt Hedstrom shot a 35 for low gross, while Steve Mariani was low net with a 29.

In ladies league last Thursday night, Prairie Farms was high team with 22 points. The team was composed of Amy Brown, Anna Toner, Hailey McLain and Kim Purket. Ali Ward fired a solid 39 to earn low gross, while Kim Evans was low net with a 33.

Good news from Beaver Creek Golf Course. People are actually hitting golf balls again. The course is trying to dry up, while several holes have been turned into make-shift par-3s for the time being. Here’s to a speedy recovery for the grand old course the rest of this summer.
