Local Golf Report: Ladies fight cancer of all forms

From Tee to Green...

For years, one of the most important tournaments on the local golf scene has been the Havre Women Fighting Breast Cancer Tournament. The event has raised a lot of money, as well as awareness for such a worthy cause, that it’s always been a local favorite.

Now, the Havre Women’s Golf Association is continuing the tradition of hosting the tournament, but with a new twist to it. This summer, the 10th annual tourney will help fight all forms of cancer.

This year's tournament will be held June 7 at Prairie Farms Golf Course and will be a way to support those battling all forms of cancer. In past years, the association has raised approximately $15,000 annually to assist in defraying the costs associated with breast cancer for men and women along the Hi-Line. The funds raised from this year's tournament will be able to assist anyone along the Hi-Line who is making the courageous battle with any type of cancer.

“The goal is to raise even more funds to help our friends and neighbors with travel, prosthetics, medications, and much more,” the Havre Women’s Golf Association said in a press release.

If anyone would like to play in the 3-woman scramble, buy a flag in honor of a loved one, donate a prize, or sponsor the tournament, please contact Melissa at 945-2651.

While the Havre Women’s Association Fighting Cancer tourney is the first event up on the Prairie Farms tourney calendar this summer, men’s league action is already in full swing.

Last Tuesday night saw Dan Wagner Plumbing and Northern Edge to take high-team honors with 24 points. The Wagner team was composed of Dan Wagner, Greg Baltrusch, Russ Earl and Barry Zanto. Northern Edge is made up of Nate Baltrusch, Kyle Sheppard, Ricky Brown and Steve Heberly. Kyle Sheppard was low gross with a 37 and Brett Patrick and Jim Kirkpatrick tied for low net with a 31.5.

Golf competition isn’t just limited to the adults either. This week at the Double Arrow Golf Course in Seely, the Chinook golf teams will be competing at the Class C state tournament, while at Fairmont Hot Springs, Harlem and Rocky Boy golfers will be competing at the Class B state tourney. Good luck to all our area youth golfers, and check back next week for full results.
