Cowboy Christmas raises over $50K

Montana State University — Northern’s rodeo teams roped in over $50,000 through their Cowboy Christmas fundraiser event last Saturday.

Emily Kallenberger, the assistant coach, said there was quite a turnout.

“It was wonderful. There was over 400 people there — we packed the gym at Northern and everybody was just really supportive,” she said. “Right now, we don’t have the expenses taken out, but it grossed over $50,000.”

The final number is not tallied yet however, Kallenberger said between $35,000 and $40,000 will be for the team's use.

The money raised will be used for scholarships, travel expenses, livestock and feed.

Kallenberger said the team would like to thank the MSU-N Booster Club, the team parents, everyone who donated to the event, everyone who attended the event, Chancellor Greg Kegel, athletic director Christian Oberquell, the “Plowed Under Band” and MSU-N food services for catering the event.

This is Kallenberger’s third year as the assistant coach for the team along with head coach Doug Kallenberger. She said one of her favorite parts about being a coach for the team is seeing the athletes grow in their rodeo careers.

“One of the biggest feathers in our hats is to watch them graduate from college,” she said.

Kallenberger added that the team has big plans for the future.

“We’re definitely looking to grow this team and the rodeo program," she said. “We have some big goals for the team.”
