Four seek Rocky Boy chair post

The upcoming Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation election now has a set list of candidates after the deadline for submissions ended Wednesday.

The election will fill the Chippewa Cree Business Committee chairman and committee member positions previously held by Kenneth Blatt St. Marks and John “Chance” Houle respectively.

The candidates for chairman are:

• Jonathan Windy Boy

• Ken Blatt St. Marks

• Bert Corcoran

• Dustin Whitford

The candidates for committee member are:

• Ted Whitford

• Raymond “Jazz” Parker

• Leon Sutherland

• Duane Gopher

• Ellis Swifthawk

• Tanya Schmockel

• Kelly Eagleman

• Ervin “Kenny” Watson

• Stacey Small

The special election will be held Feb. 3. It is the second special election since St. Marks was voted in. He was re-elected in the last special election and thrown out of office once again after allegedly violating policies and procedures.

Windy Boy challenged the results of that election, and tribal court upheld that challenge. The court’s decision is being appealed.

As of 9:30 a.m., Chippewa Cree tribal offices did not know where people could vote when the day comes.
