Pete was born to Pete Sr. and June (Gardner) Dion in Havre at Sacred Heart Hospital on July 31, 1936. He was raised on a farm south of Chinook and attended school in Havre. During his time in Havre schools, he made many friends and wrestling buddies his own age. The "country kids" formed a kind of clique apart from the "less hardworking town kids." Country boys all became wrestlers, but Pete was the leader of the wrestling bunch in school. For many years he was a road construction foreman, as well as a boxer.

He married Edith MacIntyre in 1954 and to this union five children were born, all of whom currently reside in Montana. Pete farmed with his father east of Havre for many years. In 1981 Pete opened the Film Library, one of the first video stores in Montana. It was a hit, people enjoyed being able to watch new and old movies in their home at their leisure. He also opened many video stores throughout the state. In 1994 he sold his video stores and retired. Pete lived a good life with many happy memories of good times with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, shopping, camping and visiting with friends. He believed "a stranger is just a friend I haven't met yet."

Pete was loved by his family and will be missed. Pete is survived by his children, Kathleen "Kitty" (Miles) Gillis of Havre, Tina Dion of Havre, Dee (Mike) Biegler of Cut Bank, Addie (Gary) Gullickson of Big Sandy and Peter (Diana) Lozing of Cut Bank. He has six grandchildren, Angie Davidson, Krystal Lozing, Ryle and Samantha Biegler, Mariha and Matt Gullickson and four great-grandchildren Keegan, Keeana and Gabriella Davidson, and Tristen Lozing.
