Juvenile police pursuit leads to Tuesday afternoon car crash

Two 13-year-old girls who allegedly stole a car and led officers on a pursuit through Havre Tuesday afternoon were arrested after crashing into two other cars.

Investigating officer Aaron Wittmer said the girls stole a blue Monte Carlo and refused to stop after police tried to pull them over. The driver never drove faster than 40 mph, Wittmer said.

"They were trying to get away, making lots of turns," Wittmer said this morning. "They took the corner too quick and plowed into a gray car, then they slid into another."

The girls crashed at about 5 p.m. on the 100 Block of 15th Avenue.

One of the cars the juvenile hit has been damaged beyond repair, Wittmer said. The trunk area was irreversibly crushed. The other car, Wittmer added, incurred damage to the axle.

No one was hurt during the pursuit.

Both juveniles were handcuffed and arrested after the crash, he said.

The driver has been sent to a juvenile detention center in Great Falls and is being held on pending charges including at least three counts of criminal endangerment, reckless driving by eluding, motor vehicle theft, driving without insurance and driving without a driver's license.

The passenger has been released and will be charged with motor vehicle theft by accountability, Wittmer said.

Wittmer said he is still reviewing video of the incident and charges can change depending on the investigation.
