A grant is helping Montana State University-Northern bring a band to hold a Mexican carnival on campus Sept. 30, during Hispanic Heritage Month.
Christina Estrada-Underwood, director of Northern’s Office of Diversity Awareness and Multicultural Programs, said she applied for the $500 grant from Humanities Montana about three weeks ago.
The grant, along with other funds generated by the office, will bring Dimension Nortena, a traditional Mexican norteno band from Walla Walla, Washington, to campus. Norteno is a genre of traditional Mexican dance music.
