    Winds up to 72 mph struck Havre Saturday night prompting the first tornado warning in years. Hail the size of quarters broke windows at Eagles Manor, the Havre Historic Post Office, the old Shriners Building and other locations around the city. Trees were uprooted around the city, including a massive tree at Eagles Manor. Limbs were down on streets Sunday morning. The fireworks set for Saturday night display was postponed.   • Matosich up for Havre police chief

    Gabe Matosich, who has been acting Havre Police Chief for nearly two years, has been nominated by Mayor Tim Solomon for the permanent position. “He’s sort of proven himself in the time he’s been in there,” Solomon said this morning. City Council will vote on Matosich’s appointment Monday night. If council members ratify the nomination, Matosich will be sworn in on the spot.
